How to ensure duplicate IDs not entered in the questionnaire

Hi,
I am using a questionnaire for field-based research involving over 2000 participants. Each one is assigned unique IDs [4 digits] by data collectors. I want to ensure that if an ID is entered second time then is there a way to detect this while collecting data?
