Question

Hi Epicollect5 team,

We are experiencing a UI / touch target issue with the Date question field in the Epicollect5 Android app across multiple devices and projects over the last few days.

Issue Description:
When opening a form containing a Date field (format dd/MM/YYYY), tapping on the main area or left side of the d/mm/aaaa input box does not launch the date picker calendar dialog. The field appears completely frozen/unresponsive.

Current Finding / Workaround:
After troubleshooting, we noticed that the calendar picker ONLY triggers when tapping a very small region on the far right of the input box, right next to the “X” (clear) button.

System Details:

App: Epicollect5 for Android

OS: Android (tested on multiple devices)

Question Type: Date (dd/MM/YYYY)

Occurring since: ~5 days ago across all users in our organization

It seems a recent update (possibly Android System WebView or an app build) shifted or shrunk the click target/hitbox for triggering the date selector modal.

Attached is a screenshot of the issue. Could you please look into this and release a patch for the touch event alignment?

Thank you!

I confirm I have read the User Guide at docs.epicollect.net

Hi, thank you for reporting this (there is no screenshot but the issue is known anyway)

This is not specific to your project. It is caused by a recent upstream change in Chromium / Android System WebView to the native control: tapping the main / left side of the field no longer opens the calendar, only a small tap target on the far right next to the X does.

Workaround for now: tap the far right edge of the date field to open the picker.

We are shipping a fix in the next app update so tapping anywhere on the date field programmatically opens the picker again, restoring the previous behaviour.

Thanks again for flagging it.
