Trouble viewing data

Question

I can log on fine and view form builder, users etc fine, but when I click ‘view data’ I get an almost blank screen, with just ‘Epicollect5’ in the top left corner and what looks like a partial image capture of another word below it. I have tried using a different device, and my colleague has tried using a different account, with the same result. I also tried to view data on a different project and got the same result. This also means I can’t download the data as the data screen won’t load. Possibly a glitch in the system somewhere? In which case, I hope it can be resolved.

I confirm I have read the User Guide at docs.epicollect.net

I confirm I have searched for an answer in this community.

To help us better understand the issue you’re encountering, would it be possible for you to share a screenshot of the problem? Visual context would greatly assist us in diagnosing the situation.

Additionally, we’ve been unable to reproduce the issue on our end.

Could you please confirm whether you’ve tried the following troubleshooting steps?

  • Testing in a different browser
  • Clearing your cache and cookies
  • Ensuring your browser is up to date

See screenshots from Chrome, Mac OS.

See screenshots from Firefox, Mac OS.

Hi and thank you for your reply. I’m glad you can access everything fine.

I have cleared my cache and cookies and there was no change. My browser is up-to-date (Microsoft Edge, screenshot below) and I have also tried in Google Chrome and there was no change. I have attached a screenshot of the screen I get when I try to view data (all the other screens seem to be functioning fine).

Thank you.

We confirm we are not facing any issues on Edge either, see screenshot.

Would you mind posting a screenshot of the dev console to see if there are any errors there?

To open the Console, press Ctrl+Shift+J (Windows, Linux) or Command+Option+J (macos).

With the console open:

You can reload the page with the console open to see if any error is generated and logged there.

Moreover, could you please try Firefox? (Chrome and Edge are the same browser behind the scenes.)

Extra tests: incognito mode, different network. Are you using custom DNS?

More tests using Windows simulators, still all good

More simulators

Thank you. This is what I get when I try to view the data page with the console open:

I will see whether I can use Firefox, and if that doesn’t work I will try a different device

Ok Firefox didn’t work either, but I have tried using Edge on a non-work device and that works. So it seems it must be something to do with the work network, security settings or something.

Thank you for the info, that is a network error, as you can see in the Dev Tools panel:

403 Forbidden.

If it works on Edge outside your work network but not in Chrome or Firefox on your work device or network, it’s almost certainly related to:

🧱 Work Network, Proxy, or Security Software

  1. Corporate proxies or firewalls might:
  • Strip headers (e.g. Cookie, Authorization, X-CSRF-TOKEN)
  • Block specific routes (like anything with /api, /auth, etc.)
  • Intercept SSL/TLS (yes, some companies install their own root CA to decrypt HTTPS traffic)
  1. Antivirus or endpoint protection (like McAfee, CrowdStrike, Symantec):
  • May interfere with browser traffic or block some scripts/cookies.
  1. VPN:
  • These sometimes route traffic through their own tunnel and can be overly aggressive with blocking.
  1. Group policy/browser settings:
  • On managed devices, things like tracking protection, third-party cookie blocking, or even JavaScript restrictions could be enforced.

There is nothing we can do on our side, aside from catching those network errors and display a troubleshooting page. We will try to add that in a future update.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
